Keltics
Name Coach for '07 Season Rugby
Nova Scotia is please to announce and welcome back Mike
Cavanagh to the Keltics program. Mike was the first
coach for the Ketlics in the inaugral year of the RCSL
and that year lead the Keltics to the RCSL Championship
game held in Halifax, NS. He continued with the program
for 3 more years and lead them back to the championship
game 2 years later.
Mike since that time has done coaching
stints in USA, Ottawa and at STFX, where he currently
has led the STFX women to 8 straight AUS titles and
most recently the CIS Championship. Last season Cavanagh
came in as an interim coach to fill the departure of
Coach Camp.
Mike has started training with the Keltics
in the snowy wet and frigid conditions here in Halifax.
Although these sessions are in less then ideal conditions
for the 30 plus players in attendance there was a clear
indication of youth present at the sessions with many
of the players coming from the U20 program and University
teams.
In addition to the youth there was a large
contingent of strong players from some of the 2nd Division
clubs in the province that has been missing in the past
years. "Its encouraging to see that the Keltics
program, a Nova Scotia Rugby product, is starting to
be viewed as a program not just for NS 1st Division
players but for all the players in the province to aspire
to play for.", stated Cavanagh.
Mike wants to see this commitment
to the provincial program continue and translate into
some results in this year's RCSL. “Our focus this
year is about re-establishing the commitment to the
Keltics program that made us a contender in the early
years of the Super League. It won’t happen over
night but we think that if we can tap into the talent
that we have province wide then we can surprise some
of the teams in the East Division.” |
