Provincial Head Coach Position(s):
Keltics (RCSL), Sr.W. (NWL), U20m, U19w, Canada Games (U18m),
U17w & U16m
Job Description
Reporting to the Director of Development & the Director
of Rugby, the Head Coach is a proven leader and visionary
possessing an exemplary combination of coaching, education
and experience in rugby to ensure the continued development
and success of the Provincial Program. This person is further
committed to long-term responsible fiscal planning and athlete
development, and the overall promotion of the game. As a coach
you will be expected to:
1. organize, prepare and conduct all training sessions and
keep a record of these sessions.
2. prepare a season schedule of practices, games, tournaments
and meetings. This does not limit him/her to adding any.
3. ensure that every effort is made to prepare the team for
competition both mentally and physically.
4. develop the overall skill sets of the athletes in relation
to the High Performance Models by Rugby Nova Scotia &
Rugby Canada.
5. keep records of individual player performance, fitness
and other notes.
6. make sure that game, tournament and any other write ups
are in to Rugby Nova Scotia in a timely manner.
7. at all times encourage players to their up most potential.
8. be responsible for the final team selection and match
selections.
9. at all times conduct himself/herself in an appropriate
manner which will enhance the integrity of the game.
10. ensure a safe environment for training and playing.
11. not tolerate or take part in any type of harassment.
12. respect all players, coaches, managers, administrators,
spectators, officials and officials at all times.
13. assist the manager in other administrative matters as
delegated from time to time.
14. adhere to the Code of Conduct/Ethics of both Rugby NS
& Rugby Canada
15. participate in activities required by Rugby Nova Scotia
16. attend all meetings of coaches arranged by Rugby Nova
Scotia
17. to establish a supportive coach/management team for approval
by Rugby Nova Scotia
Duties & Responsibilities
· gather every athletes information & keep on
file with a copy for the office
· ensure & verify every athlete is registered
with a club
· all monies for the program to be made out to Rugby
Nova Scotia
· develop a budget for the season and submit to Rugby
Nova Scotia
· keep accurate accounting records
· submit an end of term report, thanks includes the
final financial report to the Rugby Nova Scotia
· use the sponsors of Rugby Nova Scotia for purchasing
equipment & clothing
· have all fundraisers approved by Rugby Nova Scotia
· follow the on & off field kit policy
· have each player & parent sign the Rugby Nova
Scotia Athlete Agreement
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
· Level 1 coaching accreditation complete and working
towards completion of level 2 or 3
· 3 years coaching experience
· Proven ability to successfully relate to and work
with elite players
· Recent Criminal Record Cheque (done within the last
month) forms must be obtained through Rugby Nova Scotia &
completed and handed in at the interview
· Child Abuse Registry Check (done within the last
month) forms must be obtained through Rugby Nova Scotia &
completed and handed in at the interview
Knowledge
· Demonstrate sound understanding of Rugby
· Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the provincial
sport environment
· Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the national
elite rugby environment
· Superior technical and tactical knowledge of the
game of rugby
· Familiarity with principles of team dynamics
· Knowledge of the principles of long-term athlete
development, particularly elite athlete development
Skills & Personal Attributes
· Strong leadership skills
· Ability to critically evaluate, assess, and plan
effectively
· Sound decision-making skills
· Solid organizational skills
· Flexibility to travel with Teams
· Ability to mediate and resolve dispute/conflict
when necessary

· Ability to follow protocol and procedures set forth
by Rugby Nova Scotia
These coaching positions are for a 1 year term, with the
exception of the Canada Games Program which is 2 years. All
programs will come into a review after each term
