Officials Level 1 - Introducing Officiating

Prerequisite: Nil
Duration: 8 hours

Assessment: assessment; provision of certificate for full attendance

Course outline: The purpose of this introductory course is to enable officials to acquire basic skills to officiate safe, enjoyable competition.

Course details: The course focuses on the following aspects of the game:

  • Playing charter and the principles of rugby
  • Individual core skills and safety in contact
  • Risk Management and ethics
  • Role of the match official
  • Basic communication
  • Child and adolescent growth and development
  • Basic Positional play
  • Philosophie of advantage
  • Role of the Touch Judge

Prerequisite: Participants have at least refereed one season in their domestic competition
Duration: 16 hours

Assessment: There are two options:
1. Provision of certificate for full attendance
2. For accreditation: attendance and participation in all modules; achievement of satisfactory practical assessment; achievement of 80% in open book Law test; submission of a officiating diary.

Officials Level 3 - Analysis and Preparation

Prerequisite: IRB Level 2 Officiating accreditation or equivalent
Duration: 20 hours

Assessment: Attendance and participation in all modules; achievement of 80% in tests; achievement of two satisfactory practical assessments not older than 12 months; presentation of a seasons plan.

Course outline: The purpose of this course is to enable officials to analyse performance and prepare affectively to officiate safe, enjoyable competition.

Course details: The course focuses on the following aspects of the game:

  • Full management of game and officials
  • Communication with all match participants
  • Goal setting
  • Coach and Assessor
  • Long term development plan

Assessment: Attendance and participation in all modules; achievement of 80% in tests; achievement of three satisfactory practical assessments; submission of an officiating diary for a season; presentation of an annual plan; attendance at an IRB Level 3 coaches course.

Course outline: The purpose of this course is to enable officials to develop and apply game planning skills.
